The short version

All five straps here measure the heart's electrical activity, which is the correct physical principle and the reason any of them beats a wrist sensor. What separates them is connectivity, battery format, ecosystem features and — crucially — whether anyone has ever measured them.

On that last point the field is thin. The Polar H10 is the reference standard in published studies. The other four have no independent validation we could find.They are probably fine. "Probably fine" is what we can honestly say, so it is what we say.

What the specifications actually mean

Simultaneous connections

Polar publishes the H10 as supporting Bluetooth LE and ANT+ together. In practice that means the strap feeds your watch and your bike computer at the same time, which matters if you ride and run. Bluetooth-only straps generally hold one connection, so every session starts with a decision about which device gets the data.

Onboard memory

The H10 stores one session of up to 30 hours internally. That is a genuinely useful property in ways that are not obvious: it lets you record heart rate for a swim where the watch signal will not transmit through water, and it means a dropout mid-session does not lose the data.

Coin cell versus rechargeable

The H10 runs a CR2025 for a manufacturer-stated 400 hours — Polar describes that as over a year of training an hour a day. The Wahoo TRACKR is rechargeable, which sounds more modern and is arguably worse: it is one more thing to remember to charge, and a flat strap mid-session is a failure mode a coin cell simply does not have. Pick the one that matches how organized you actually are.

The strap outlives nothing

Worth knowing before you buy any of these: the sensor pod lasts years and the fabric strap does not. Almost every "my heart rate monitor has become erratic" problem is a worn or dirty strap, not a failed sensor. Replacement straps are inexpensive and are the first thing to try.

Any measured accuracy figure for the Garmin HRM 600, Garmin HRM 200, Wahoo TRACKR or COOSPO H808S. No published validation exists for any of them that we could find. Their specs are published and their measurement principle is correct; that is the extent of what can be said.

Which chest strap is most accurate?

The Polar H10 has the strongest evidentiary position, because independent researchers use it as the reference standard against which other devices are measured. No comparable validation exists for the other straps here.

How long does a chest strap battery last?

Polar states up to 400 hours for the H10 on a CR2025 coin cell — roughly a year of daily hour-long training. Rechargeable straps like the Wahoo TRACKR last a session-scale amount of time and need charging like any other device.

Why has my chest strap become erratic?

Almost always the fabric strap rather than the sensor. Straps wear out, and detergent residue and dried sweat both interfere with conductivity. Rinse it after use, wash it without fabric softener, and replace the strap before you replace the sensor — it is a fraction of the cost.

Can I use a chest strap for swimming?

The H10 is rated WR30 and stores a session internally, which is what makes it viable — a Bluetooth signal will not transmit reliably through water, so live pairing to a watch does not work. Onboard recording and syncing afterwards does.
